Over these last two months I have flown all the way across the country (from Oregon to Florida to New Jersey and back) 5 times, have driven across the country once, and have traveled all around Oregon and Washington for my new job. Needless to say, I have been staying in a lot of hotels the past few months.
While I don’t mind hotel-life, it can be a challenge to get some good workouts in with limited space and equipment.
It has forced me to get creative and come up with several no-equipment workouts, small space workouts, as well as learn how to use limited equipment options.
For those of you who travel a lot, stay in hotels, or just have limited space and/or equipment to use when you workout, I’ve got some good workouts in store for you!
Hotel Fitness Center Workout
Over the course of the 20 or so hotels I’ve stayed in over the past few months, very few of them have a full-service fitness center. When I come across a hotel fitness center with cardio equipment AND weights, I am thrilled. But, they can be few and far between.
If you find the fitness center to be small and lacking, the first thing you should do is ask the front desk if they have any kind of arrangement with a local fitness center. In some cases, if a hotel has a limited fitness center they will partner with a local fitness facility to offer free or steeply discounted access to their gym for the hotel guests. I’ve come across this a few times and it doesn’t hurt to ask.
If this is not the case and you are stuck with a closet-sized fitness center with only a treadmill (I come across these a lot), have no fear! There are still some great ways to get a good workout. Check out my lower body treadmill workout for one idea.
Treadmill Lower Body Workout
I am not a cardio queen (I hate it), so when I step foot in a gym with ONLY cardio equipment, I cringe. So, I tend to improvise and get a little creative with the treadmill. This lower body treadmill workout will get your heart rate up and get your legs burning…in a good way.

Hotel Room Workout
If you find yourself in a small hotel room with no fitness-center option, there are some ways to get a great workout right in your room.
One way is to use one of the online fitness subscriptions, like Beachbody On Demand. This is what I use the majority of the time when I am on the road. Beachbody on Demand gives you thousands of workout routines to follow, many of them can be done with limited equipment AND space. I am currently following the T25 program on Beachbody on Demand and it is helping me to stay on track.
And, if the program you are following requires weights, I recommend getting a resistance band. You can still follow along with the strength workouts, adjusting them slightly to accommodate the use of the resistance band. It’s an easy thing to throw in your bag on-the-go.
But, lets say you don’t have internet connection, a resistance band, or a hotel fitness center. You still don’t have an excuse to skip your workout! Check out my hotel room workout below to see what you can do with the small space and limited resources you have in your hotel room.
